Description: Titled: DESCENT MTT, this captivating 26" x 31" oil on canvas is signed and dated lower right and depicts a slow line of traffic as it descends a steep road and climbs in the distance on a wintry night. The work is delightfully painterly with confident daubs of well placed color and lots of textural variation which borders on the abstract, especially in the distance. Andrew Haines (American, b. 1962) was born and raised in New Jersey and studied painting at the Tyler School, Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is currently Conservator of frames at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and paints at least an hour every day before his family rises. His favorite subjects are urban landscapes which frequently (directly or indirectly) include automobiles as he attempts to capture the momentary impressions experienced through the car windows during daily commutes.
