Description: ORIGINAL 1985 ALDEN BAKER P.S.A. (b 1928) 'WATERFRONT HOMES LANDSCAPE' PASTEL PAINTING This is just a great original piece. I bought this work without knowing anything about the artist. I just thought the work was really great and it was one of the best pastel works I had come across lately. The work is done by well listed artist Alden Baker. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included her biography below. I know the artist worked in Provincetown and I think this may be an image from there. There are plenty of other areas in New England and New Jersey where this could be. Regardless of the location, it is really a beautiful work. A large pastel on paper measuring 18 1/2 x 24 1/2 inches. Signed lower left and dated lower right. Pastel is basically as created. Truly stunning condition. Triple archival matte and simple grey wood frame are complimentary and ready to hang. A beautiful presentation of a great work. Frame measures 26 3/4 x 32 3/4 inches. For those not familiar with the artist her biography from Pastel Society of America reads: "Alden Baker was born into a family of artists. Both of her parents were art teachers of note and she learned ear1y what good painting was and was not. An art critic said of her work, "Countless artists produce pastel paintings, but few handle light and color with Baker's passionate expertise". Baker studied at the Art Students League and seven summers with colorist Henry Hensche in Provincetown, MA. Since then, she has won 19 first place and four best-in-show awards as well as two recent $1000. awards: the Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Giffuni Award at the Pastel Society of America and the Annual Combined Exhibition's Dianne Bernhard Gold Medal Award at the Salmagundi Club.Currently the President of the Art Centre of N.J., she is also Corresponding Secretary and Critiques Chairman of the PSA where she earned the title of Master Pastelist. She is also an active member of the Salmagundi Club, the Hudson Valley Art Association, the American Artist Professional League, the Pen & Brush Inc. and others. A resident of New Jersey, Ms. Baker works primarily in pastel which she terms "A marvelously transportable, colorful and colorfast medium".
