Description: Vintage sterling silver Sleeping Beauty turquoise stamped scalloped concho post earrings from the famous female Navajo silversmith Verdy Jake. These are part of my personal estate collection of 20 years. They are stupendous from the precision stamping quality to the beautiful Sleeping Beauty turquoise of approx 8 mm bezel set in scalloped silver. Her specialty is selecting quality turquoise for her pieces. The earrings are approx 1.5 inches long, x 1 inch wide, show well with short, long hair or hair stuffed in baseball caps. They weigh 7.18g and can be (and have) been worn all day. They are posts and come with large plastic backs to hold them in place. Verdy Jake: Female Navajo SilversmithNavajo silversmith Verdy Jake has been active since the 1990’s. She grew up in a family of thirteen children. Her oldest brother began working in silver and taught his siblings the art. Verdy is known for her traditional revival silverwork. From a website biography, dealer Barry Simpson shares insights about the artist: "Old style Navajo jewelry greatly appeals to me. Verdy Jake has the skills to represent the look and feel of antique Indian jewelry as it would appear on the weathered, textured hand or wrist of one of our elderly native friends. Her jewelry looks good and feels right. Verdy has exquisite taste in stones. With silver smithing tools her grandfather used in his youth, Verdy creates jewelry that exemplifies the American Indian Southwest.” Her hallmark is "V" and she lives at Smith Lake on the Navajo Reservation.
