Description: ***********FOR PARTS/REPAIR - The Eterna 1424UD automatic movement runs fast and needs to be gently spun face down on a flat surface after the crown has been wound in order to jump-start the seconds hand. Additionally the case back doesn't tighten as it should which can be most clearly seen in pictures 11, 12 and 17, respectively. It's possible that it may need to be replaced. At a minimum a complete overhaul is required.***********This vintage 1960's Eterna-Matic KonTiki has a uniquely aged "T SWISS T" signed dial with lume that emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light. In my humble opinion the dial and patina present markedly better in person. The beautifully cut all stainless steel case shows significant wear with signs of oxidation. As most clearly seen in pictures 11, 12 and 17, respectively, the case back, which is missing its center piece, does not tighten as it should. It's possible that it may need to be replaced. The inside of the case back is stamped "130 TT" followed by "ETERNA WATCH Co,""SWISS,""ACIER,""INOXYDABLE" and "A." The crystal needs to be replaced. The "ETERNA-MATIC" stamped 1424UD automatic movement with quickset date function runs fast and the date wheel rolls over at approximately 11:57 pm. Additionally the watch needs to be gently spun face down on a flat surface after the crown has been wound in order to jump-start the seconds hand. The quickset date function works flawlessly by repeatedly pulling out the crown to the final position until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the replacement, non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions (and then gently spinning the watch face down) the movement ran about 12 minutes fast by the end of its approximate 41 hour power reserve period. The crown winds with an appropriate amount of tension. Given that the case back doesn't tighten as it should and may need to be replaced, that the movement runs fast and considering it won't fire up without some help at a minimum complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 38.5 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the mid-case is approximately 8.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 12 mm. Given the issues mentioned at a minimum a complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now.
