Description: ***********Although the date wheel rolls over as it should and the movement runs strong it gains nearly 7 minutes by the end of its approximate 38 hour power reserve period. And after winding the crown the watch needs to be either gently shaken and or spun face down on a flat surface in order to jump-start the movement. Given this and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended.***********This seldom seen vintage 1960's Elgin has a lovely satin blue and orange accented "T SWISS MADE T" signed dial that shows age-related wear. The lume, which no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a subtle orange hue on the dial and to a warm buttermilk patina on the hands. The lume at the base of the minute hand arrow shows cracking. The bezel, which shows wear and does not rotate bidirectionally likely due to gunk buildup underneath, presents nicely. The massive all stainless steel case shows honest wear with minor signs of oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped "ALL STAINLESS STEEL" with "ELGIN SA" followed by "SWITZERLAND" and "91505" stamped on the inside of the case back. The crystal needs to be replaced given the crack along the edge between 11 and 12 o'clock. The 17 jewels unadjusted "SWISS" and "ELGIN 351" stamped AS 1983 automatic movement with quickset date is clean, runs strong albeit fast and the date wheel rolls over at 12 am. The quickset date function works flawlessly by pressing in on the crown until the desired date has been reached. After winding the Elgin signed non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement ran nearly 7 minutes fast by the end of its approximate 38 hour power reserve period. The crown winds smoothly. After winding the crown the watch needs to be gently shaken and or spun watch down on a soft, flat surface in order to jump-start the movement. Given that this watch is more than 50 years old, that the movement runs fast and considering its unknown service history (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 41 mm excluding the crown, approximately 44 mm including the crown and approximately 21 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm.Given the vintage nature of this watch, that the movement runs fast and considering its unknown service history a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.
