Vintage 1953 Shure 55S dynamic cardioid microphone w S36 stand Elvis Prop

Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a classic 1953 Shure Brothers 55S dynamic cardioid microphone. Shure Brothers sold this very model from 1950 to around the late 1960's before the style was altered slightly and happens to be one of the finest dynamic cardioid mics of it's time. These are highly collectible mics and despite the fact that this mic currently has a defective impedance switch this will still make a very nice display piece. It comes with the period Shure S-36 model desk stand as seen in the pictures provided. Again, mic works with a perfect sounding element but the impedance switch only works on Low and medium setting. The high impedance setting gets no response so realistically this mic should not be used for most situations. Yes, it does work and sounds great but with the defective switch I am selling this as a display, prop mic only. This defective switch can be common problem for most of these older 55S model mics. Quite possibly one of the most recognized microphones in history...the Shure 55S really stands out with it's clean, elegant lines and flashy satin chrome finish. This example has the royal blue silk screens and they are quite nice overall. These 55S mics were used by just about everyone for every situation back in the day. Politicians, musicians and dictators can all be seen in photos using the 55S. Pic # 2 shows this model in an old Shure catalog along with it's basic characteristics. Pic # 3 shows a young Elvis singing live with a Shure 55S. The 55S was had excellent cardioid characteristics blocking out most unwanted background noise while picking up only the sound being produced directly in front of the mic. Great for singers where background noise is an obvious problem. I have a few working examples if you need one to use live for any occasion. As you can see the body shows just very lite wear with a minimum of blemishes. There are no deep scratches or heavy pitting in the satin chrome finish. A minimum of tiny scratches and scuff marks but the ribs are straight...free of dents or fractures. The beautiful red silk screens are even colored and look great with zero holes, rips or discoloration. The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension and a wide degree of tilt. The label looks very nice and you can see by the serial number that it's a 1953 model. I secure the element on these mics as they are always loose from years of use. The element will cause a ton of unwanted feedback if not secured inside so I do that with every 55S that comes my way. No issues. I would rate it an conservative 8 cosmetically speaking on a scale of 1 - 10 though many would rate higher. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE... The stand is a period S-36 model and was the most common desk stand sold by Shure from the late 1930's to 1960 that could be used with almost all Shure model microphones utilizing the lower pistol grip. The S-36 is a lite weight design with a low center of gravity and a classic deco look that really compliments any Shure mic you mount on top. The S-36 was an all aluminum body being virtually corrosion proof and comes with a beautiful silver painted finish. Because this stand has the Chicago label it was actually made sometime between 1940 and 1956. The Evanston label stands were made between 1956 and 1960. The brass mic bolt, front Shure insignia, 5 new felt pads and cable clamp are all present and in great condition. This particular S-36 stand has almost no wear as seen in the pics provided. No dents, corrosion, scuff marks or scratches on the dark silver painted finish. I'd rate the true condition an 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10. This S-36 is appx 3 inches tall X 5 inches wide X 7 inches deep. The Shure 55S model mic looks amazing on this S-36 model stand A great conversation piece anywhere it sits or is used in the home, studio or office. If you need a fine example...this is your girl.
