Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a gorgeous older microphone from the 1950's with very handsome lines and one of the most iconic Astatic mics of all time. The 77A model dynamic cardioid microphone with cable in which to operate and a metal case in which to store the items. Pic # 2 shows this very mic in an old 1950's era Astatic catalog I have with all the basic characteristics. Pic # 3 shows a young Jerry Lee Lewis using the 77A while performing live in concert. Back in the 1950's Shure Brothers was selling the very popular, quality 55S model mic and Astatic was trying to complete with those sales by introducing the 77 series mic which was basically the same size and similar in many ways but the 77 series mic had an even more aggressive. It has what I consider an Italian deco design. A very stunning model with clean mid century lines. Now I've come across dozens of these over the years and I very rarely find a 77A in perfect working condition but this example is one of them. Usually the 77 series mic after all these decades either doesn't work, is too weak to use or lacks the proper bass. The 77 was a quality sounding mic with a good build but they didn't seem to hold up as well as the 55S did under the same age and conditions. This 77A is a studio quality mic. The signal strength is 100% and works on all impedance settings. It should be noted that if you use a 2 pin cable (like the one provided) with a male 1/4 inch end connection the mic will work only on High and Medium impedance. If you use the cable provided the mic will work on all impedance settings. The 2 pin to male XLR cable ensures a strong signal with plenty of bass on the Low Z setting. This is common for the 77 not just this mic but again, very few 77 series mics actually work well anymore. This mic is in the top 5% as far as working examples. As you can see the mic has virtually no wear. An absolute gem. The The threads for both the cable and for a stand are perfect. Nothing broken or stripped.re are no dents, scratches or pitting on the mic. The black silk inner pop filter screens are perfect and are free of rips or holes. The joint mechanism works great and the head tilts according to your needs. Both thumb screws work great and you can also tighten them accordingly. The on / off switch works perfect as does the impedance switch. Mic is a solid 9 +++ on a scale of 1 - 10. The cable provided I built myself and it's appx 10 feet long. It's soft, pliable and free of any damage. It has the quality male Switchcraft XLR end connector for use with most audio equipment. You can always use another XLR cable as an extension if you need more length to work with. The beautiful vintage metal case is included as well in which to store your items. The case has a practical carrying handle and locking mechanism. It has the original blue paint scheme. I added two new foam inner pads to keep the mic safe and snug. It's a very rugged design and compliments the mic nicely. Plenty of room inside for everything as well as an extra cable if you need to. The case shows almost no wear on the paint. Zero dents or corrosion. Just a few lite scratches and it's a great accessory to have to keep these items safe from damage. If you demand an excellent working 77A to use frequently...this is your mic. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY. I DO HAVE SEVERAL OLDER DESK AND FLOOR STANDS AVAILABLE IF ONE IS NEEDED. As with all my vintage microphones for sale... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid.
