The The Siege of Vicksburg was the final major military action in the Vicksburg Campaign, culminating a series of maneuvers under the leadership of Union General Ulysses S. Grant to capture the city and the Confederate army there led by General John C. Pemberton. Vicksburg was the last major Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River. The Confederacy repulsed a series of Union attacks against fortified position, but after holding out for more than 30 days, with their reinforcement and supplies nearly gone, the garrison finally surrendered to Grant on July 4. The successful ending of the Vicksburg Campaign significantly degraded the ability of the Confederacy to maintain its war effort as it cut off the Confederate states of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas from the rest of the Confederacy, effectively splitting the Confederacy in two. This book is brand new, unread and in pristine condition. This paperback book is sharp, bright, clean and tight. It is richly illustrated throughout. 33 pages.
