Very RARE antique 1800s, Edward Peck printed cloth Santa Claus doll pillow XLNT.

Description: CHRISTMAS past Thanks for visiting, This very rare and most sought after, 12 inch tall, double-sided, early printed stuffed cloth doll was designed by Edward Peck, patented: December 20, 1886, Brooklyn, New York and printed by the Oriental Print Works in the 1880s. According to cloth doll historians Margaret Whitton and Frances Walker in their book: "Playthings by the Yard", The Story of Cloth Dolls, pages 1 & 29, "The first patent cloth doll of record was granted to Edward Peck in 1886 for a Santa Claus". (see book page photos)Bearded Santa is smoking his pipe and wearing pale blue pants beneath a brown, fur trimmed jacket with fur cuffs, brown boots and cap and holding a patriotic American flag and holding lots of charming, Victorian era toys in both his arms including dolls, teddy bears, drum, sword, horse, bell, etc. The doll is signed: Patent Applied for (over) Santa Claus Doll on both sides. The colors are still bright and vivid with no fading, no tears or stains, no holes or damages no repairs. This listing is for only the one doll on the left although we currently have two in stock.
