Description: Very Early, 17th/18th Century Wooden Woodworkers Brace, Extremely Rare (1470) Early example. Hand-worked, including both the head and the handle, not turned. All wooden apart from i) the iron casing for the bit holder ii) The hand-forged nail repairs (one to the side of the handle and three to the area around the bit-holder - all are early historical repairs. The handle-retaining peg is wooden. The handle is almost certainly original, and from the holes the recess in the handle shaft can be seen where the original retaining peg would have been.Has a number of cracks - the crack in the area of the bit-holder has a very old repair with very early hand-forged nails. The rotating grip has cracks but holds in place and doesn't appear to have been glued (the handle centre-spindle is jointed into the two parts of the main body).Numerous knocks and losses as to be expected. Condition is used, signs of age - refer to photos and condition description. Shipping is to the UK mainland only, else via eBay global shipping. Shipping is combined wherever possible.
