Description: This USS William M. Wood (DDR-715) Med Cruise Year Book 1953-1954 commemorates the Gearing Class Destroyer's cruise of that year featuring the mission, crew, and various European/Mediterranian ports of call. Commissioned just after WW2 ended, she served the Navy faithfully for 31 years...from the Korean War through the Vietnam War...even participating in President Kennedy's blockade of Cuba. Recommissioned as a Radar Picket Destroyer, The USS W.M. Wood adopted the lovable feline cartoon character Tom--from Tom and Jerry fame--as its mascot, since this class of ship was informally known as a "Tomcat." The cloth-bound hardcover book is very good overall condition (cover shows mild wear and a small ink stain on the spine, but pages are crisp and untorn). The book measures 8" x 10.75" and has 50 pages packed with photos and original drawings (and these drawings are absolutely period-inspired AMAZING!). There's also a cocktail napkin from the 823 Restaurant in DC that was tucked in the inside cover that I'm including. These old cruise books are so hard to come by (especially in this condition), and this particular one is extraordinarily RARE. Check the many pics and feel free to ask any questions you may have. From a smoking-free home. Please, only US bidders on this lot. Shipping is $6.99 for USPS Media Mail.
