Description: This listing is for brass plaque from the USS Fiske (DDR-842) Watch Dog of the Fleet. The plaque and the wooden holder are in good condition. There is some white paint on the wood and a couple of tiny white specs on the brass (see photos). The wood needs to be cleaned up and the brass needs some serious Never Dull. The brass plaque is approximately 6⅞ inches high and 4⅞ inches from left to right at its widest point. The plaque (with the wood) weighs approximately 3 pounds 2 ounces. Some info on USS Fiske from the web: USS Fiske (DD-842) was launched on 8 September 1945 by Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine; sponsored by Mrs. F. E. Ribbentrop; and commissioned on 28 November 1945. USS Fiske was decommissioned on 1 April 1952 for conversion to a radar picket destroyer, and accordingly reclassified DDR-842 on 18 July 1952, recommissioning on 25 November 1952. Her classification reverted back to DD-842 on 1 April 1964. She was transferred to Turkey on 5 June 1980. Fiske was stricken from the U.S. Naval Vessel Register on 6 August 1987. She served in the Turkish Navy as TCG Piyalepasa (D350), named after Piyale Pasha. The ship was heavily damaged when she ran aground in late 1996 and was scrapped in 1999.
