Thanks Usnea (Usnea Barbata) or Old man’s beard is a lichen (actually a combination of a fungus, algae and yeast) that loves to grow on the bark and branches of dying or dead trees. Usnea is a wonderful immune tonic/enhancer and can be taken for a short duration to shore up the immune system when others around you are sick. For me what makes Usnea so interesting (besides it physical appearance) is that it can be used in both chronic and acute infections and its “super power” is dealing with all types of staph infections. It has antibacterial properties which will shut down the bacteria’s energy systems which then stops them from being able to replicate themselves.
