Description: This listing is for an US Eagle Head Infantry Officers' Sword and Scabbard, 1821-1840. From the original dealer with regard to this specific weapon: "This is a wonderful example of a rare Indian Chief Pattern Guard U.S. Eagle Head Infantry Officers' Sword which dates from the early 19th century. It is mounted with a streamline straight blade that measures 31-1/4 inches in length. The blade shows to have been cleaned in recent years and is lightly stained nevertheless; remnants of the original etching can still be made out on either side. The lovely brass guard wears an intricately detailed knuckle-bow and is wonderfully enhanced with an eagle head pommel and fabulous high relief indian chief guard face. The guard is in very nice condition. The checkered carved natural hilt remains in good health with a lovely deep yellow mellowing now developed. The original brass scabbard remains in very good, serviceable condition and is also nicely engraved along the front side. Overall measuring 38 inches in length." Note: There appears to be a repair in the handle next to the pommel as the grip material is a different color. Please look at the photos and judge the condition of the sword for yourself. The photos in the listing are of the item you will be receiving and are part of the description. If you need any additional photos please ask. My father was a lifelong collector of swords and flintlock pistols from the American Revolutionary War through the Civil War. He retained detailed files of where each item was purchased, and only bought from well-known dealers of high integrity. If you would like additional details on a specific item please let me know. At the time of his death, the collection remained with my mother. I am selling the collection on her behalf to provide additional funds for her retirement and in the hopes these phenomenal items may find homes with other collectors. Sincere offers will be considered. Having grown up with many of these weapons on display in our home, I am familiar with the history of them although I am not an expert on appraising edged weapons. Shipping is free in the United States. The package will require signature confirmation on receipt due to the dollar value of the item.
