Description: Vintage abstract expressionist pastel painting on paper attributed to Ursula J. Brenner, features a non-figurative composition rendered in hues of red, orange and yellow, presented in a black wooden frame with glass in the front and hanging wire on the verso.Ursula Brenner grew up in Germany surrounded by a rich cultural scene. She moved to Cincinnati and attended Edgecliff College, a women’s college later to merge with Xavier University. Brenner graduated with a degree in Drawing and Painting in 1978. She notes artists such as Wolf Kahn (German-American, 1927 – 2020) and Susan Sarback (American, 20th/21st century) to be major influencers of her work. In 2002, Brenner attended the Vermont Studio Center on scholarship. Her work uses a foundation of notan study, a Japanese technique for studying lights and darks, to represent mixed media landscape and abstract compositions.
