Unusual Vintage Rookwood Art Deco Cabinet Vase "XXXI" 1931 #6085 Slate-Blue

Description: Featured in this auction is an interestingly-shaped little cabinet vase made by Rookwood Pottery. The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, no cracks, no crazing and no repairs with only a few tiny glaze fleabites around the base rim edge, most likely from the grinding process. There are also some stray marks on the piece from gentle use. This piece is 4-1/2" tall, 4" wide at the bulbous body, and 1-1/2" wide at the mouth. The base of the pottery is stamped with the Rookwood Pottery flame mark, the shape number 6085 and the production year XXXI (1931). The piece also includes Rookwood's "50th Anniversary" mark stamped on the base. The vase features a beautiful, "carved-melon" body with a geometric motif encircling the shoulder. There are also three decorative "handles" that are glazed over. This spectacular glaze is a matte, drip slate-blue color which beautifully accentuates the mold detail. The vase is very clean both inside and out with traces of mineral staining, small glaze drips and misses inside, and an occasional glaze pinhole. Check out all 9 photos!
