Description: Unusual Japanese Lacquer Display Piece. Very interesting lacquer This piece measures 18” in length X 12” in width & 3 3/4” in height. This piece is excellent for age. There is some wear. We bought this as a display piece for ceramics at the San Francisco Art & Antiques Fair in 2010 from the Gavin Lowe Gallery. This is a perfect low display table with a fantastically marbled lacquer surface. It was made in imitation of a Japanese lacquer artist’s low work table. It was sanded down to show many layers of colored lacquer. Japanese lacquer artists were quite fond of the effects all the layers would produce & often make such multi-layered pieces intentionally. This piece is 20th century.
