Description: UNIQUE PATHOLOGICAL OTODUS OBLIQUUS FOSSIL SHARK TOOTH MOROCCO Description Pathologically deformed fossil shark teeth are highly sought after by collectors...After acquiring that one, or two or more "perfect " teeth for their collection many collectors seek out the wacky, weird deformed tooth of a species to round out their collect and call it complete for that particular shark.....This wonderful specimen of an Otodus obliquus shark tooth has a blade, root and cusps showing some distortion ..... Certainly a great display example of a pathologically deformed Otodus tooth! Otodus obliquus is an extinct mackerel shark which lived during the Paleocene and Eocene epochs, approximately 60 to 45 million years ago. The fossils of Otodus indicate that it was a very large macro-predatory shark. The largest known teeth measure about 4"in. in height. The vertebral centrum of this shark are over 5 inches wide. Scientists suggest that this shark commonly approached 30 feet in total length. Scientists determined that Otodus evolved into the genus Carcharocles, given substantial fossil evidence in the form of transitional teeth...in other words...it's the great grandfather to Megalodon.
