Description: Unique 1861 Confederate States of America Fifty Cent Replica Coin Token Ring When the Confederate Army captured the U.S. Mint in New Orleans it was renamed the Confederate States Mint. They commenced striking their own half dollars with their own obverse and used the obverse of the then current U.S. 1861 Seated half dollar as the reverse design. Due to silver prices rising, the coinage for the Confederacy failed, due to lack of silver for planchets, so they only struck four originals which are very valuable. These are considered the Confederate half dollar that never was since no other original strikes are known. The obverse has Lady Liberty seated on a boulder with her right hand supporting the shield of the Union, inscribed with the word LIBERTY which is symbolic of the Unity of the Nation. In her left arm she holds a pole topped with a Phrygian cap, which signifies Freedom & the Pursuit of Liberty. Thirteen stars surround her with 1861 at her feet. The reverse has a shield with a Phrygian cap on top encircled with a wreath and CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR . This would be a great gift for a person who participates in the Civil War reenactments. It turned out to be a size 10 I coat the interior of my rings with a lead free silver bearing solder that allows it to be worn for extended periods of time without your finger turning green. The ring was hand polished with a rag when it was finished. Any questions please ask. You can check out my other handcrafted items on Etsy @phillycopperthings
