In 1498 (Meiō 7) during the Muromachi period, a major earthquake cut the land that separated Lake Hamana from the sea, and the ferry crossing was called Imakiri no Watashi (Imakiri Ferry) as it was a recent break. This is a rare landscape painting by Hiroshige in which the sky is not blurred. The white peaks of Mt. Fuji are elegantly lit up against the yellow sky in the distance.
