Description: Turin, ITALY - Vittorio Emanuele II Monument - 1911: The monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of Italy, is located in Turin, in the Largo of the same name, at the junction between Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Corso Galileo Ferraris. King Umberto I, his son, had it erected between 1882 and 1899. The monument, a structure of bronze and granite, is the work of architect Pietro Costa. The king's statue rises on tall Doric columns. In the sculptural groups at the are figures representing unity, brotherhood, work and freedom. The monument reaches the height of 39 meters, achieving the local popular title of "the King on the Roofs" or "Barba Vigiu".
