Description: I have here for sale a nicely bound edition of book entitled PROVERBIAL PHILOSOPHY by MARTIN TUPPER. Published in 1863 by HATCHARD, London. This book includes both the first and second series. With tissue guarded frontispiece. Martin Farquhar Tupper FRS (17 July 1810 – 29 November 1889) was an English poet and novelist. He was one of the most widely-read English-language authors of his day with the poetry collection Proverbial Philosophy, which was a bestseller in the United Kingdom and North America for several decades. Bound in full leather boards. Gilt title lettering on the front and back boards with blind embossed decoration. Gilt title lettering on the spine which has 5 raised bands with blind embossed decoration between the bands. Internal gilt dentelle. A few white marks on the boards, (?)- polish- please see photos. Gilt fore-edges Only light shelf wear is evident. Light markings on the endpapers. Inscription on front fly-leaf. Staining and foxing on the frontispiece. Pages are generally clean and bright. This book is in very good condition, it is tightly bound with no loose or missing pages 385pp; 16cm x 11cm. Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped.
