The New Orleans class was the last of the second generation of "Treaty" heavy cruisers built between the two world wars. The seven heavy cruisers of this class are all similar in appearance. Their standard wartime displacement was 10,136 tons, and their full load displacement was 12,436 tons. Due to the increase in radar, electronic equipment and anti-aircraft weapons, the displacement is also increasing year by year. During World War II, the New Orleans class was considered the most frequently used warship in the U.S. Navy. They participated in almost all major combat operations, although only four ships remained after 1942. The New Orleans-class heavy cruisers won a total of 63 battle stars during combat operations against Japan in the Pacific Theater.
