Each movement in each palm change contains many fighting applications and are generally trained only for that purpose. Training is done while walking the circle and the movements are performed in a continuous, flowing manner - leading to the name 'Bagua Continuous Palms' Baguazhang performance routines that are widespread today are a development of the 1960s, created by using Baguazhang movements to compose performance routines that emphasise beautiful movements and fit the technical criteria used by wushu formms judges. This basic level performance set is mainly composed of movements from the Eight Fixed Palms (DingShiBaZhang) set, as well some some of the simpler palm and kicking techniques from other palm changes. Containing a total of 62 movements, it is performed while walking the circle and is a simple routine to leam for those with some background in the basic palm changes.
