Presenting the VERY FIRST ever authenticated example of this incredibly rare and unique card. The 2002 Topps Gandalf the White. For those who don't know what this card is and or the story behind it. Back when Topps was creating this Two Towers set, Ian Mckellen's Gandalf the White was actually included in the original release, however, Ian was bothered by the use of "Sir" on the back of the card. After only signing, (what we know as maybe) 9-15 of these cards, he asked Topps to pull the card and not include this in any of the products. Thus we never got this version of Gandalf. These cards almost NEVER come up for sale publicly. It wasn't until 2021-2022 when a former Topps employee who had a few copies decided to formally auction them on ebay, that's when collectors finally got access to the few copies along with the additional information he had about it's cancelled inclusion. I've always put it this way. This card is effectively like the "Charizard" of the Topps autograph releases. It's the card everyone wanted and never got. Imagine if everyone knew about Charizard, but Charizard from base set was never released... it's crazy! So happy to finally be able to grade these rare specimens and be able to further our beloved hobby.
