TIFFANY STUDIOS, PINE NEEDLE, SMALL INKWELL, BEADED BORDER, GREEN GLASS, PATINA~

Description: For auction is a lovely inkwell made by Tiffany Studios of New York, New York. The inkwell is done in the "Pine Needle" desk set pattern. The patina on the metal is the most desirable green/brown. The stained glass is the green white Favrile opalescent. The inkwell is the smaller size as it is 3 1/4" square and stands 3" tall and considered a 3" square inkwell. This inkwell displays an acid etched Pine Needle overlay pattern on a green white opalescent Favrile stained glass body. This filigree is a very complex version of this Pine Needle pattern. It sits on 4 bun style feet. This is a very desirable piece to acquire in the Pine Needle desk set patterns. It is a staple if you start collecting this pattern. The patina is extremely nice as it is green/brown with some red highlights. It still retains its clear glass well insert. There are 3 rows of beading that surround the inkwell. There is 1 row along the bottom edge with another row along the underside top edge and the final third row on the top surrounding the cap. This is considered the fanciest of the Pine Needle Inkwells and the most desirable. The inkwell is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, or chips to any of the glass. The clear glass insert is in very good condition with no issues to report. There are 4 ball feet and all of them appear to be in great shape. The inkwell is signed on the underside bottom edge with the impressed small typeset mark into the metal that reads "Tiffany Studios New York" and pattern number 845 impressed. I believe the Pine Needle pattern to have been one of the first of the Fancy Goods product lines made at Tiffany Studios. This is one of the nicer 3" beaded inkwells that I have had the pleasure of selling. Those of you who are looking for a very good example of this inkwell in the Pine Needle pattern will be delighted with their purchase. Tiffany started numbering his desk set pieces usually with a 3 digit number after 1902. Since this inkwell has a 3 digit number it is in that period. I would say this inkwell was made circa 1902-1907 based on the impressed mark. PLEASE READ BELOW I want to apologize for slowing down my shipping time. This is an increase of 9.45% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 12.35% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer and this is factored into my shipping charges. If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
