Description: A vintage Swiss Thorens music box in a classical wood case with inlaid shield circa ~1940s. It plays three tunes or "airs" using 36 notes. Two Hearts in Waltz Time from a German film of the same name, popular in the early to mid 1930s.Marcheta also known as A Love Song of Old Mexico popularized by Bing Crosby in the 1940s.Student Prince in Heidelberg a successful Broadway operetta in 1924. Mechanism Condition: excellent. The winding key appears to be a replacement but fits the stem correctly. All components are metal. Both halves of the Geneva stop are present. All teeth are present and dampered where appropriate. The cylinder is clean, the pins are in good shape and it positions through tunes as expected. The mainspring unwinds with no noticeable noise. The stop mechanism is working correctly. Case Condition: good. One corner appears to have suffered an impact resulting in a veneer chip and crack, glass on interior is likely a replacement as it has a chip and is cut unevenly on one side. No apparent water damage or odors. The hinge is in good shape and the lid closes tightly. The original tune sheet is adhered to the inside lid. Four brass tacks serve as feet on bottom of box. The exterior wood might benefit from a polish or wax to preserve the finish. Disclosures: interior glass was removed, cleaned and replaced. No other maintenance performed.
