This covers all that was discoverable at the time, from official exchanges, through military manoeuvres and stories of German infiltration down to anecdotes of problems faced by officers and men and the appalling plight of the panic-stricken refugees. He describes how in a series of lightening moves the Germans almost succeeded in isolating the British Expeditionary Force.(The author) reconstructs in dramatic detail the entire rescue operation from Dunkirk. It is a story of heroism and shattering error, of brutality and immense courage, and written within a few weeks of its happening, this account of it vibrates with the emotion and commitment felt by Englishmen at the time.
