Description: First edition copy of The Secret Birds by renowned poet, author, artist Tony Fitzpatrick published in 2016 by Curbside Splendor Press. Fitzpatrick is a Chicago institution whose work has been displayed at major art museums throughout the country, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in Chicago and the National Museum of American Art in Washington DC. He maintains an active studio in Chicago and has done album covers/compact disc inserts for Steve Earle, the Neville Brothers and others. In addition to his art, he is a published author and has acted in films and on stage. The book was signed in person at the Printers Row Litfest in Chicago in 2014 for which he designed the cover of the program book. Several of the plates are from his own personal collection and others are from such notables as Geddy Lee, John Cusack and Lin Brehmer. The book includes an introduction by Helen MacDonald, author of H is for Hawk, a poem by Wallace Stevens and several short essays by the artist himself about art, Chicago and birding, a past time about which he was passionate.
