Description: The Old Mill is a vintage Jacob van Ruisdael print. It has been made to look like an old black & white photograph. It is 8" x 10", is printed on thick textured paper, and is in excellent condition. Jacob van Ruisdael (c. 1628–1682) was a prominent Dutch landscape painter, widely regarded as one of the greatest masters of the Dutch Golden Age. Born in Haarlem, Netherlands, he was known for his detailed, atmospheric depictions of natural scenery. His landscapes often featured dramatic skies, ancient ruins, dense forests, rivers, waterfalls, and windmills, capturing the mood and power of the natural world in a way that was both realistic and expressive. Van Ruisdael’s style evolved from the more serene and balanced landscapes of his early years to a more dramatic and expressive approach later in his career. His work often carried symbolic undertones, such as the smallness of humanity compared to nature's vastness, and he was especially known for bringing a sense of grandeur and tension to his landscapes. Chuck Olson CollectionChuck Olson spent over 40 years collecting and traveling the United States in search of unique vintage prints. He was especially interested in prints that were printed for use on calendars in the "Age of the Calendar" from 1900-1960. Chuck amassed a collection of well over 10,000 framed and unframed prints before his death. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the item.
