Description: The Mountain that Loved a Bird. Written by Alice McLerran, pictures by Eric Carle. Hardcover with dust jacket, 23 beautifully illustrated pages. Published by Picture Book Studios USA in 1985, presumed first edition, signed by the author on the first free endpaper. This is the author's first published story. From the dust jacket: "Joy had stopped to rest on many mountains before, but this was the first that had asked her to stay. It was too dry and harsh a place for a bird to live, but Joy promised to return each spring; and because mountains live longer than birds, she would name a daughter Joy, and send her to visit, and each daughter would always do the same. Over time - a lot of time - the mountain undergoes great changes." The book itself is almost like new: its only defect is a bump where the covers meet the top of the spine. The price-clipped dust jacket is good+: no tears or chips; some creases along top edge, with almost none along bottom edge; light scuffs on front and back; a bit of wear and fraying at very top of spine. This is a delightful signed book in great condition.
