Two pulp stories originally published by Argosy Magazine in the 1930s. About the Singapore Sammy: Singapore Sammy is a fictional pulp character written by George F. Worts, primarily for Argosy,[1] one of his primary markets for fiction. The adventures of Sammy Shay are one of the shorter adventure series characters which Worts wrote. Sailor Sammy Shay roamed the South Seas on a quest to locate his father, who possessed the only copy of a will which left all of his wealth to Sammy alone. The series was well regarded in the Argosy letters column of the time. These stories take place in the South Seas, where Worts had worked as a telegraph operator on the Chinese trade route. The Monster of the Lagoon: Sammy Shay — Singapore Sam, they called him — was only one of several adventurers heading toward the weirdest mystery of the South Seas. Such an evil name had the South Sea Island of Little Nicobar that few white men had ever gone there. Legend said that a terrible monster, which no man had ever seen and lived to tell of, lived in the lagoon on the island. Buddha's Whisker: Singapore Sammy and Lucky Jones are hired to steal a revered whisker of the Buddha himself from a well-guarded temple in the Cambodian interior. Word of their quest gets out; quickly a race is on to see which pursuing party will acquire the sacred object first. Condition: Binding - near fine, a couple of spots on the top page edges and a ball point pen mark on the side page edges, otherwise like new. Dust jacket - none, as issued.
