Description: The Kalo Shops Chicago & New York Sterling Hand Wrought Arts & Crafts Bowl c1912 For your consideration is this very rare Kalo Shops Chicago & New York Sterling Hand Wrought Arts & Crafts Bowl c1912. The bowl is octagonal, with paneled flaring sides and flat bottom. Tis Kalo bowl measures 9 3/4" at the widest point and stands 2 1/4" tall. The bowl weighs 19.87 ozt. This piece is in very good condition with no splits or repairs, there is no monogram. Very nice hammering the bowl is marked "Sterling Hand Wrought at the Kalo Shops Chicago and New York. This mark was only used from 1912 to 1916 when due war constraints the New York Shop was closed. A truly rare museum quality piece. In many respects the Kalo Shop was the single most important American hand-wrought silversmith. Talented individuals such as Frank Gardner Hale and Edward Oakes were also key Arts & Crafts metalworkers, two other large firms -- Arthur Stone and George Jensen -- were in the very top tier of makers, but the Kalo Shop produced the widest range of classic handmade holloware.
