Description: BEAUMONT, CHARLES. The Intruder. London: Muller, 1960. First Edition - British. Near fine copy with some minor handling in a very good bright dust jacket with a touch of dust soiling to the rear panel and minor edge wear. Scarce. The American edition has a rather plain dust jacket compared to this one which has a dramatic color illustration of two young black students looking forlorn at the front steps of a school with two white children looking out from the front door of the school. On the brick wall of the school someone has written a racial slur with an image of a man in green tones superimposed onto the scene. A novel of racial tension and violence set in the American south with a story line of school integration and the ensuing controversy.
