Description: THE DIARY OF ETHEL H. RUDKIN PART THREE 1932 -1934. Published by Old Chapel Lane Books, Burgh le Marsh, Lincolnshire 2020, 130 pages, app, 32 illustrations. This third part of Mrs Rudkin's diary contains three years as she was still writing a great deal in the diary at this point. It contains more folklore than the previous volume as she was collecting information for a series of articles in the 'Folk-lore Journal'. These articles then came out as her book 'Lincolnshire Folklore' in 1936. There were visits to archaeological sites, often in the company of the archaeologist A. L. Armstrong. There are many accounts of witches from the memory of old people and the effects which they had on other people. There are several accounts of cock fighting in the Gainsborough area and charms for good luck and for young girls to find out who they were going to marry. There were several trips to healing wells and springs in north Lincolnshire, which still had rags hanging on the bushes as tokens of the bandages from cures. This is another volume of a remarkable account of Lincolnshire by a remarkable observer and collector of the area. Robert Pacey, Burgh le Marsh, Summer 2020
