Shubin has written in the past a theology and a commentary on the Bible, a history of Russian Orthodox monasteries used as prisons during the era of Imperial Russia, and compiled a 4-volume History of Russian Christianity. Dan was a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War (as was his father during World War 2) and also acts as an advisor for military-age young men of his denomination.
