Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Printed in 1941, this is an “official” account of the Battle of Britain in September, 1940, put out by the British Air Ministry and containing a sanitized account of the campaign, tilted of course towards the apparent British victory in the 84 day event. Based on what we now know about the Battle, and the eventual German decision not to invade the British Isles, the situation was a lot more complicated than just a simple face-off between two air forces, with massive losses in pilots and crews on both sides. There is no doubt that the Germans could have easily conquered the British Isles had they continued with Operation Sea Lion and invaded, but Hitler’s decision not to proceed and to invade Russia instead was the main reason behind the pull-back. Not continuing with Sea Lion was a major strategic error on the German side, since it enabled the British to rebuild its armed forces, and, with American help, eventually provide the staging area for the invasion of Europe in 1944. In any event, this small booklet has some interesting photos in it, including many of downed German planes, and is an interesting historical artifact. This 1941 Paperback is in good condition, with no internal markings and minor cover wear.
