Description: This exquisite gilt bronze sculpture from the Rattanakosin Kingdom is an early 19th-century depiction of Buddha Shakyamuni, seated in the siddhasana posture on a stepped throne. Siddhasana, also known as the "perfect pose," is a cross-legged sitting position that signifies meditation and spiritual awakening. The Buddha's head is adorned with the ushnisha, a cranial protuberance symbolizing his enlightenment. Both of the Buddha's hands are positioned in significant mudras. The right hand is in the bhumisparsha mudra (earth-touching gesture), symbolizing the moment of enlightenment when Buddha called the earth to witness his awakening. The left hand rests in the dhyana mudra (meditation gesture), symbolizing inner peace and concentration. Standing at 16.5 cm, this piece is in good condition, with some age-related wear. The gilding has naturally worn over time, reflecting its age. Its serene presence and intricate details will bring a sense of tranquillity and historical depth to any space. We recommend viewing all the photos before buying. We are also happy to answer any questions to help you make the right decision. Thank you for considering this piece from Taliesin Antiques.
