Description: Here is a nearly antique commemorative teacup and saucer set celebrating King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of England on their visit to Canada in 1939. The two ceramic pieces have a super bright white background with transfer art of vivid colors in royal blue, orange, and gold. The cup measures 2.5" tall with a rim diameter of 3.25". The thin handle with touches of blue and orange extends 1" allowing for a secure grasp. The footed base has a diameter of 1.75" and is edged in blue. One side has the royal pair in profile surrounded by a wreath below a crown and flanked by four different flags. Below the royals are their names along with "Royal Visit to Canada, May 1939". The cup's opposite side has a gold and orange maple leaf in the middle of cursive "G" and "E" with "Canada" above. Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, crazing, utensil marks or discoloration. The saucer measures 5.75" in diameter with 7/8" high sides. The rim is edged in orange. Condition is good with very few light utensil marks on the saucer. There is a light hairline crack, see last photo. It is also decorated with the transferware depictions described above for the cup. The backstamps in black with a crown logo read "Standard China, Made in England". Both pieces may have hand-painted touches as evidenced by artist's color dabs on the cup's underside. Thanks for looking.
