Description: This is for a lovely set of a porcelain teacup and saucer made by Hutschenreuther of Germany. It is a very pretty design called RICHELIEU with swags of pink roses and a bit of greenery, with a blue ribbon here and there. The backstamp of these was used starting in 1939 to 1965 according to collectrosenthal.com. The first Hutschenreuther porcelain company started in 1814 in Bavaria by Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther. In 1857 his son Lorenz Hutschenreuther opened his own factory in the town of Selb Bavaria where his growth and reputation grew to exceed that of his father. His company became the first German porcelain company to be able to compete with fine porcelain companies like Haviland and Wedgwood. In 1969 'Hutschenreuther of Selb' bought the original company started by Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther and they became a single company. This set is in excellent vintage condition, with no chips, cracks, or crazing. The glaze is shiny and I see minimal if any marks on the glaze at an angle to the light either. There is a bit of rub wear and a little discoloration on the gold trim. The cup is 3 & 5/8 inches in diameter, stands 2 & 1/8 inches tall, and holds 3/4 cup. The saucer is 5 & 5/8 inches in diameter.
