Text description beneath the picture (subject to any spelling errors due to the OCR program used) THE SWAN ISLAND, LOCH LOMOND.This beautiful islet is well known locally, but does not appear to have been so known by name for any great length of time. Dorothy Wordsworth describes it at some length in her Tour in Scotland," but without any such name, which may probably have become attached to the island through the great fondness for swans shown by the late head of the Colquhoun family. Under his fostering care the swans on the loch increased to a large number, and this islet became their favourite though not exclusive breeding place. The island lies a mile below Luss, in a small bay enclosed by Rossarden and Aldoclay points, between the mainland and the far larger Inch Tavannach or Monk's Isle.
