This is believed to be a figurative offering bowl used to hold kolanut that is offered to importsnt guests and visiting dignitaries. Description. Fine, striking and authentic example featuring a central stooping female figure holding a bowl. She has an elegant braided coiffure and small brass bells for earrings. To her back are hole that more brass bells are looped through. Etched body scarification to breaststroke, arms, waist area and lower legs. Beautiful and genuine patination ,derived from age, wear and use, that is slightly lustrous to some parts. Minor wood degradation and lossvisible but not obtrusive or weakening. Good evidence of genuine age and natural wear. Stunning and and very rare work, exclusive to Yemisi Gallery, that is a very valuable showpiece work created over six decades ago by artisans of a very small ethnic group.
