Description: New old stock. Sunbonnet Sue Sampler Quilt Quilt size: 44½" x 56½* Block size: 10½* Sunbonnet Sue probably first appeared as illustrations by Bertha Corbett Melcher in the book The Sunbonnet Babies' Primer, written by Eulalie Osgood Griver in 1902. Throughout the 20th century, many artists and quilt designers have adapted and developed numerous embroidery and appliqué designs from the original idea of the little girl in the big hat. This pattern packet is a collection of 12 Sunbonnet Sue designs. Several are familiar favorites from the past; others have been designed by artists at Quilter's Newsletter Magazine to add a fresh update to this popular tradition. Many wonderful Sunbonnet Sue quilts have been made by using the same pattern throughout. Each block is made special through the use of a different combination of coordinating cotton prints-perhaps from scraps of various sewing projects. If you haven't worked extensively with appliqué, you will enjoy using the pattern shown on the left and also the one on the left side of Sheet 2. These have the largest patches and few details. You will find in the collection many patterns to suit your own level of experuse and your desire to embellish with embroidery, ribbons, and lace. As you can see from the cover quilt, one block from each pattern makes a delightful sampler-12 Sunbonnet Sues, each with a charming personality all her own.
