Stunning Vintage 1954 Asian Silk Jacquard Jacket

Description: This is an absolutely beautiful vintage silk jacquard jacket from approximately 1954. It has five frog closures, and is in excellent vintage condition…no holes or tears that I can find. There are no tags, so it may have been hand made. I am assuming it’s silk but without any tags, I cannot say for certain. I would also say it’s a modern day size 8, or medium. It at one point had large shoulder pads but they were professionally removed many years ago. Laying flat, it measures approximately 16.5 inches across the shoulders, 16 inches at the smallest part of the waist, and 28 inches long. It has two side slits, and slightly belled sleeves. The jacket is machine sewn with black lining, but the frog closures appear to be hand stitched on. This belonged to my late mom, Cathy. Her boyfriend when she was 18 gave her this beautiful jacket with matching pants (yay Johnny!). The pants are long gone, but this jacket has stood the test of time. Shortly after he gave this to her, he broke up with her (boo Johnny!), but then again, yay Johnny, because had they stayed together, I wouldn’t be here! I can picture my mom as a young woman, living in downtown Toronto in the 1950s, looking so stylish in this fabulous jacket. I wish I had a photo of her wearing it. I’ve had it for many years, but have never really worn it. Even at my thinnest, the width of my back and waist were just a little too big to squeeze into it. Well, not without still being able to breathe, which is kind of important. So short of having a few ribs removed, and since I have sons and not daughters to pass it down to, I decided it’s time for someone else to enjoy this spectacular jacket.
