Description: Stunning Pair Mid 1800s Continental European Silver Table Candlesticks 12"Presented is a wonderful pair of antique continental European silver table candlesticks, dating to around the 1840s-1850s. These candlesticks are possibly of German make, or another country using the 'loth' silver marking system. The candlesticks are made in a handsome paneled form with round stepped feet on square bases, with foliate decoration around the socles, shoulders, waists, and feet. The bobeches/wax drips are removable for ease of cleaning. The candlesticks are weighted/filled for stability. This pair of candlesticks is in good overall condition. One candlestick has an old solder repair to the narrowest point of the shaft, which also effected the leaf designs just above; this is visible on the lefthand candlestick in the eighth photograph. The undersides have been re-felted. There are no splits, no serious dents, and no other repairs. Both candlesticks are hallmarked on the side of the base with the 12 loth mark for 750 purity silver as well as a maker's mark or other mark of IK over HL, and a separate mark IK. Each candlestick stands about 12 inches tall and measures about 4 3/4inches square for the base. The total weight for the pair is 1742 grams or 3.8 pounds. The silver on these candlesticks is quite thick, the bobeches/wax drips alone weigh 78 grams total, so a considerable amount of this weight is in the silver. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
