Description: Description: This is an absolutely one-of-a-kind striped skunk skull with associated hemi-mandible. This specimen is from the well-known Marion County Sinkhole site which produced a large number of complete skulls. This is the fifth striped skunk skull that we've had from that site over the years - which would make them seem common, however, we've never seen another skunk skull in private hands from anywhere else other than that site. Furthermore, this is the only example we've ever seen with an associated mandible! The skull is in exceptional condition with eight teeth including one of the canines still intact. Bone-wise the skull is only missing the zygomatic arches and the occipital condyle. There is also evidence of predation on the top of the skull/nasals showing that this individual was likely killed by a bird of prey - most likely an owl based on other evidence at the site. The hemi-mandible is 100% intact bone-wise and has all five cheek teeth intact, including the canine and the super rare tiny p2 that is never seen. This specimen is from our private collection and is irreplaceable, you won't find a better example anywhere.
