The screws are captured inside of the recoil pad. When fully unscrewed, the recoil pad can be removed from the stock. Place the stock spacer on the stock where the recoil pad was. There is only one way that it fits, so it can't be installed upside down or flipped over. With the stock spacer sitting on the stock, put the recoil pad on the spacer, making sure the raised screw holes on the pad fit into the holes on the spacer. If the pad does not mate correctly, check that the rubber coating is not getting gathered up around the base of the pad. If it is, the rubber coating can be trimmed off. When fitting the pad, spacer, and stock together, also make sure that rubber is not gathering up around the lip of the spacer, which will also prevent a tight fit. If this happens, you will need to sand out the inside of the lip on the spacer so that there are no errant filament strands or blobs preventing the correct fit. Note that the stock screws will be too short. With the screws tightened, there should be no gaps or wiggle between the pad, spacer, or stock.
