Description: For auction is a small art glass vase made by The Steuben Glass Company of Corning, New York. This vase is done in Frederick Carder's most highly sought after and collected Gold Aurene style of art glass. I call this a miniature Floriform or Flower form vase because of its size. The vase is a petite size as it stands 3 1/8" tall and is 4 3/16" in diameter at its widest point. The bottom has a diameter of 2 5/16".The vase displays a small footed cylindrical with ruffled top shape. It starts out with a raised round foot that rolls in and rises up in a cylindrical fashion and flares out to the top ruffled border. The ruffled edge along the top border resembles a flower in nature and thus the term Floriform for this shape. There are 6 of these ruffles at the top. This is set against a Gold Aurene iridescent glass. The color is wonderful as you can see beautiful Gold Iridescence with fuchsia and some platinum blue hues. The platinum blues are along the center and lower portion of the vase with the fuchsia tones all along the underside of the ruffled border. When you handle the piece it has a velvety feel to it and is very smooth.The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings to the piece. It is a nice example and appears to have been taken care in its lifetime. This vase has a counter sunk polished pontil, the finishing sign of a quality piece of art glass. The piece is signed on the bottom outer edge that reads "Aurene" with their etched signature mark. On the opposite side is the shape number "162" which is also etched. This is known as shape number 162 in the Steuben catalog pages and was introduced very early on. ThYou can tell always tell Steuben's Gold Aurene from Tiffany's Gold Favrile as Steuben's texture of the glass is very smooth like a baby's butt and the Tiffany Gold Favrile has a rougher texture. Purchase with confidence as quality art glass especially of this size is becoming harder and harder to find. Steuben's Aurene was registered in 1904, and ceased production in 1932. This is a very nice example of Steuben's Gold Aurene in both form and iridescence. This form was made in 4 sizes with this size being the smallest. This would be considered a 4" and the catalogue says the height is 3 1/2" and this one is even smaller than that which makes it even rarer. This vase based on the signature is early, circa 1904-1910. This is an increase of 9.45% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 12.35% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer and this is factored into my shipping charges. If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
