Description: Sterling Art Deco Brooch, 18th Century Portrait, "After Charles Bestland" 1930s?This Art Deco miniature portrait brooch, set in a sterling silver frame, is a reproduction of an 18th century painting by Charles Bestland, hence the signed words "After Charles Bestland." A celluloid layer overlays the painting in this vintage jewelry piece. The back is signed: Made in England, Sterling silver, and Rodium plated. It has an early safety catch and a tube hinge. However, these do not date the piece. Since Rhodium was not used on jewelry until the 1930s, this piece could be no older that Art Deco.It measures 2 3/8 inches tall and 1 and 3/4 inches wide and is in very good condition for its age. About 1/2 oz.One online site describes it as a "A novelty item from a grand tour visit to the British and Albert Museum" PLEASE look over all the pictures carefully.
