Text description beneath the picture (subject to any spelling errors due to the OCR program used) STEAMBOATING ON THE MISSISSIPPI HAS COME BACK IN SPLENDOR AT DUBUQUE Through the lock of a roller dam built to raise the channel from the normal six feet to a nine-foot level, towboats push long trains of barges, laden with Iowa corn bound for New Orleans. The Federal Barge Line Terminal and Harbor, completed in 1928, about a mile below this point (right), has made inland Dubuque an important port for river traffic from late March until early November.
